Day by day
How the days go
Day1
Delhi to Agra
Drive: four hours
Your driver meets you at your Delhi hotel or the airport and heads out on the Yamuna Expressway.
The drive takes roughly three and a half to four hours, with a break halfway for tea.
After checking in and lunch, your guide meets you for Agra Fort, the red sandstone fortress beside the river, where you can spend about two hours in the halls and on the marble terraces.
Then continue to Itimad-ud-Daulah, the small inlaid tomb on the river, and finish at Mehtab Bagh for a distant view of the Taj at sunset.
The garden is open on Fridays, which helps because the Taj is closed that day.
Dinner is at your hotel.
Tomorrow starts early, so we suggest an early night and ask you to keep your bags light for the road ahead.
Day2
The Taj, then Agra to Ranthambore
Drive: roughly five hours
Your guide meets you at opening time, and you enter the Taj Mahal with the first group.
The marble is cool and the light changes quickly, so allow about two hours to look closely at the inlay, the calligraphy and the gardens.
The Taj is closed on Fridays, so on those days we adjust the order.
Back to the hotel for breakfast and checkout, then drive toward Rajasthan, roughly five hours, with a lunch stop on the way.
The road passes through small towns and farmland, and the landscape turns dry and rocky near Sawai Madhopur.
You reach Ranthambore in the late afternoon.
Your hotel is close to the park gate.
Settle in, and use the evening to rest, because the safari starts early tomorrow.
Your driver and the hotel staff will confirm the pickup time for the morning.
Day3
Ranthambore
The park runs two safari drives a day, one at sunrise and one in the afternoon.
Your pickup is before dawn, and the open vehicle takes you into the zones of the park with a naturalist.
Dress in layers, since the early air is cold in winter, and wear muted colours.
Tigers are seen on some drives and missed on others, and no operator can promise a sighting.
You also have a good chance of seeing deer, langur monkeys, crocodiles in the lakes and many birds.
Return for a late breakfast and a rest.
The afternoon safari follows the same pattern, in a different zone.
Between the two, if you wish, you can visit the Ranthambore Fort on the hill, with its old temple and lake views.
Zones are assigned by the park, so we cannot choose them in advance.
The evening is at your hotel.
Day4
Ranthambore to Delhi
Drive: roughly seven hours
After one last quiet morning in Ranthambore, perhaps a walk near the hotel or breakfast on the terrace, the driver heads for Delhi.
This is the longest drive of the trip, roughly seven hours, so we leave in good time and plan lunch at a roadside restaurant in the middle of the journey.
The first stretch is through farmland and small towns, then the road joins the highway toward the capital.
You can sleep or watch the countryside.
Traffic near Delhi can be heavy in the evening, so we arrive at your hotel, the airport or the station with a margin.
If you have a flight the same night, please plan for a late departure.
Tell us your timing when we plan, and we will set the schedule so you are not hurried at the end of an already long day.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.
Practical
Good to know
Tiger sightings are never guaranteed. Plan the trip around the park, the fort and the landscape as well.
Ranthambore is closed to safaris in the monsoon, roughly July to September. Tell us your dates early.
The final drive to Delhi is about seven hours. Avoid a tight flight connection on that evening.
Winter mornings in the open vehicle are cold. Bring a warm layer and a scarf.

Questions
Good to know
Will we see a tiger?
We cannot promise it. Two drives give a fair chance, but sightings depend on the animals' movements and the zone assigned. Many guests also enjoy the birds, deer, lakes and the fort.
When is the best time to visit Ranthambore?
From October to April, with February to May often better for tiger sightings because animals come to the water. Summer is very hot. The park closes for monsoon, so we check dates before planning.
Do we have to take both safaris?
No. Many guests take both for a better chance, while others prefer one drive and a visit to the fort. We can discuss this when we plan.
Is the Taj visit included?
Yes, on the morning of day two. It is closed on Fridays, so we shift the days to avoid that, or begin with Agra Fort on a Friday and see the Taj the next morning.
