A long but workable day from Jaipur to Agra and back, with the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort seen with a licensed guide by private car. We say plainly that an overnight in Agra is gentler, and plan the day for guests who want to see the Taj in a single day anyway.

How the days go
Day1
Jaipur to Agra
Drive: roughly five hours
Your driver collects you from your Jaipur hotel around five in the morning.
The drive to Agra is roughly five hours, with a short breakfast or tea stop on the way.
If the road is clear and you are keen, the car can pause at Abhaneri to see the Chand Baori stepwell, though this adds time and we only offer it when the morning allows.
You arrive in Agra in the late morning, where your guide joins you.
Bring a light jacket for the early drive, because the air-conditioned car is cool and the morning air is cooler.
Day2
The Taj and Agra Fort
The guide takes you through the Taj Mahal gardens and up to the marble platform, explaining the inlay, the calligraphy and the story behind it.
Allow about two hours, and wear shoes that are easy to remove.
Lunch follows in a restaurant chosen for comfort, with a break from the midday sun.
In the afternoon the car goes to Agra Fort, where you walk the courtyards and halls and look back along the river to the Taj.
Day3
Back to Jaipur
Drive: roughly five hours
You leave Agra in the late afternoon and return to Jaipur, roughly five hours on the road, arriving late in the evening.
It is a tiring day, and an overnight in Agra, with the Taj at sunrise, is the gentler choice that we are glad to plan instead.
The Taj is closed on Fridays, so this day does not run then.
Your driver chooses the quicker stretch of road wherever traffic allows.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.
Practical
Good to know
The day is roughly ten hours of driving in total, so wear comfortable clothes and carry water.
The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays; choose another day of the week.
Winter fog can slow the road and delay the morning, so we watch conditions the day before.

Questions
Good to know
Is it realistic to visit the Taj from Jaipur in one day?
Yes, many guests do, and it is a comfortable car journey. It is a long day, however, and we will tell you honestly if an overnight in Agra would suit you better.
What time do we leave and return?
We leave Jaipur around five in the morning and return late in the evening. Traffic and fog can move both times, so avoid fixed plans for the same night.
Can we see the Taj at sunrise on this day?
Not from Jaipur, because the drive means you arrive in the late morning. A sunrise visit needs a night in Agra, which we can arrange as a two-day plan.
Is the Abhaneri stop guaranteed?
No. It is an optional stop on the way that depends on how the morning is going, and we leave it out if it would shorten your time at the Taj.
