Day by day
How the days go
Day1
Taj Mahal at sunrise
Your driver meets you in the hotel lobby well before dawn; the exact time depends on the season and is confirmed the evening before.
The ride to the gate is short, and your guide waits there with your tickets, which are arranged for you.
Security takes a few minutes, so carry only a phone or camera, a small bottle of water and your ID, as bags, tripods and food are restricted.
Walk through the great gateway and the Taj appears at the end of the garden, still grey and quiet.
Your guide takes you along the reflecting pool, then up to the marble platform, pointing out the calligraphy, the inlaid flowers and the way the minarets lean slightly outward.
As the sun rises the marble moves from silver to a warm cream, and the best photographs come in the first hour.
Allow about two hours in all.
Slip-on shoes help at the platform.
Afterwards the car returns you to your hotel for breakfast and rest.
In December and January fog can hide the sunrise, so we plan a little slack.
The Taj is closed on Fridays.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.
Practical
Good to know
The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so sunrise visits are planned for the other six days.
In December and January fog can flatten the sunrise; the building is still worth seeing as the mist lifts.
Leave large bags, tripods and food at the hotel; security is strict at the gate.
Wear shoes that come off easily and light layers, as early mornings can be cool.

Questions
Good to know
What time do we need to leave the hotel?
Sunrise times change through the year, so we set the pickup the evening before, usually well before first light. Your driver will be waiting in the lobby.
Will the sunrise always look golden?
Not always. In winter fog and dust can mute the colour, and in summer haze does the same. Even then the early hour is quieter, and the marble still changes tone as the light grows.
Does this tour include other Agra sights?
This journey is the Taj only, so you can return to bed or breakfast afterwards. If you want Agra Fort or Mehtab Bagh the same day, tell us and we will add them.
Is it suitable for older guests?
Yes, the walk is flat and mostly on paved paths, though the early start and the crowds at the gate can tire some people. Let us know and the guide will slow the pace.
