Day by day

How the days go

Day1

Delhi to Jaipur

Drive: roughly five hours

Your driver meets you at your Delhi hotel or at the airport early in the morning, ideally before seven, so the highway is quiet.

  • The drive to Jaipur is roughly five hours, and we plan one proper break at a roadside restaurant around the midpoint for tea and a light breakfast.
  • Expect the road to be busy near Gurgaon and calmer after that.
  • You reach Jaipur around late morning and go straight to your hotel to drop bags and freshen up.
  • After lunch, your licensed guide joins you at the hotel.
  • The first stop is Amber Fort, on its hill north of the city.
  • Arrive in the early afternoon and you avoid the worst of the midday heat.
  • Walk up through the gates, the mirrored hall and the courtyards, and spend about two hours here.
  • Wear flat, closed shoes, because the stone paths are polished and slippery.
  • Evening is free for the hotel and a quiet dinner.
Day2

Jaipur sights and the drive back

Drive: roughly five to six hours

After a relaxed breakfast, your guide and driver collect you at nine.

  • The morning belongs to the old city.
  • Begin at the City Palace, where the courtyards, the textile and armour galleries and the royal family's private quarters give a clear picture of how Jaipur was run.
  • Next door is the Jantar Mantar, the stone observatory, which makes more sense with a guide to explain how the giant sundial and the instruments work.
  • Then stop on the main street for the Hawa Mahal, the honeycombed pink facade.
  • It is best photographed from across the road in the morning light.
  • If time allows, walk a short stretch of the bazaar for block-printed cloth and lacquer bangles.
  • Lunch is at a restaurant of your choice, then the drive back to Delhi, roughly five to six hours depending on traffic.
  • You are dropped at your hotel, the airport or the onward train.

Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.

Practical

Good to know

  • The drive each way is roughly five hours, so this is a fast trip. It works best if you leave Delhi early on day one.
  • Jaipur is hot from April to June. In those months we start Amber Fort early and keep the afternoon for the hotel.
  • Evening traffic returning to Delhi can add an hour, so avoid booking an onward flight the same night.
  • Hotels are arranged by category, and rates are on request when we plan.

Questions

Good to know

Is one night in Jaipur enough?
It gives you one full sightseeing day, which covers Amber Fort, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the Hawa Mahal. You will not see the forts above the city or spend long in the bazaars. If you want a slower pace, we can extend to a second night.
Can I do this over a weekend?
Yes, many guests choose a Saturday and Sunday. Markets and monuments are busier on weekends, so the early start on day one matters. Tell us your dates when we plan and we will check opening days.
Does it include the Taj Mahal?
No, this journey runs only between Delhi and Jaipur. If you want the Taj, our Delhi and Agra short break or a three-day Golden Triangle fits better. Note that the Taj is closed on Fridays.
Which season is best for it?
October to March is the most comfortable, with clear mornings and mild afternoons. Summer is hot but workable with early starts. During the monsoon the road is greener and the forts quieter, though showers can interrupt walking.
