Day by day
How the days go
Day1
Delhi to Jaipur and back
Drive: roughly five to six hours
Your driver collects you from your Delhi hotel very early, around five or six, to beat the traffic on the highway.
The drive to Jaipur is roughly five to six hours, with a tea and breakfast stop along the way.
Your Jaipur guide meets you at Amber Fort, a hilltop palace of sandstone and marble above a lake.
Walk through the courtyards, the mirrored hall and the zenana quarters, and ask your guide about the Rajput rulers who built it.
Allow about two hours here.
Lunch comes next in the city, followed by the City Palace, where royal costumes and courtyards are still partly used by the family.
Close by, the Jantar Mantar observatory has huge stone instruments, and the car stops outside the Hawa Mahal facade for photographs.
By late afternoon you start back to Delhi, arriving around ten at night.
It is a very full day.
Wear comfortable shoes and cover your shoulders and knees at the palace, and rest in the car on the return drive.
If you prefer a gentler pace, a night in Jaipur is easily arranged when we plan.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.

Good to know
This is a long day: about ten to twelve hours of driving, so an overnight in Jaipur is kinder if you can spare it.
Start before dawn to arrive at Amber Fort before the heat and crowds.
Summers are hot, with the midday sun strong on the open courtyards.
Wear comfortable shoes; there are steps and uneven stone at Amber Fort.

Questions
Good to know
How far is Jaipur from Delhi?
Roughly five to six hours by road each way, depending on traffic and stops. We start early and keep one break on the way out.
Is a day trip to Jaipur too tiring?
It is a demanding day, though many guests do it happily. If you can spare a night in Jaipur, the pace is much gentler and you see more.
Which sights do we visit?
Amber Fort, the City Palace with Jantar Mantar and a photo stop at the Hawa Mahal. The sights can be adjusted to your interests when we plan.
Can we shop for textiles or jewellery?
Yes, if you wish. Jaipur is known for block-printed textiles, blue pottery and gemstones, and your guide can take you to workshops rather than showrooms if you prefer, with no obligation to buy.
