Day by day
How the days go
Day1
Early morning at Keoladeo
Your driver collects you from your Agra hotel around dawn, with tea and a packed breakfast if you ask.
The park is roughly an hour and a half from the city.
At the gate you meet a naturalist guide and choose between a cycle rickshaw, whose driver pedals the tracks while you watch, or walking the paths.
The guide points out storks, herons, kingfishers, owls and migratory ducks, and sets the pace to what you see.
Binoculars help, and we can discuss borrowing a pair when we plan.
Sightings are never guaranteed, and they depend on the season and the water.
Comfortable shoes and a hat matter more than binoculars on a hot morning; bring a water bottle too.
Day2
Midday and the return
By late morning the birds settle and the heat builds, so you leave the park and have lunch in a restaurant nearby.
On the way back, the car can stop at Fatehpur Sikri for a short visit with a guide, if you still have energy.
You reach Agra by mid or late afternoon, with time to rest before the evening.
Park entry and rickshaw are paid at cost on the day.
If you are tired, we simply go straight back and rest, since the birds were the point of the day.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.
Practical
Good to know
The best season is October to February; in summer the park is quiet and parts of it can be dry.
Winter mornings are cold and often foggy, so bring a warm layer and wear muted colours.
Bird sightings are never guaranteed; patience, not speed, brings the best views.
Entry tickets and the rickshaw are paid at cost, and meals are paid by guests.

Questions
Good to know
When is the best time for this journey?
October to February is best, when migratory birds are present and the wetlands hold water. From April to June the park is often dry and quiet, and we would suggest another plan.
How do we travel inside the park?
Private vehicles are mostly kept out of the reserve, so most guests ride a cycle rickshaw with a driver who knows the tracks. You can also walk, and the naturalist guide goes with you either way.
Do I need to know birds already?
No. The naturalist guide at the park finds and names the birds for you, and the pace suits beginners as well as keen watchers.
Can we visit Fatehpur Sikri on the same day?
Yes, as a stop on the drive back to Agra, if you are not tired. It adds roughly two hours, so we decide on the day and keep the birds as the main purpose.
