Day by day
How the days go
Day1
Agra to Fatehpur Sikri
Your driver collects you from your Agra hotel after breakfast, usually around nine, or straight after a Taj sunrise if you have done that first.
Fatehpur Sikri lies roughly an hour west of the city.
Your guide meets you at the site and walks you through the red sandstone palaces, the courtyard of the great mosque and the marble tomb of Salim Chishti, finishing beneath the tall Buland Darwaza gateway.
Allow roughly two hours and carry a scarf for the shrine.
Bring shoes you can slip off.
The road out of Agra is flat and straight, so it is an easy first stretch for anyone still waking up.
Your driver waits in the car park and keeps your water cold.
Day2
The road to Jaipur
Drive: roughly five to six hours
Lunch comes next, at a roadside restaurant chosen for its shade, its clean kitchen and an unhurried pace.
From here the drive to Jaipur is roughly five to six hours in total with stops, depending on traffic and road works.
If the day is running well, the car turns off at Abhaneri to see Chand Baori, a deep stepwell of geometric stairways, and we drop it from the plan if the light or the hour is against it.
You reach Jaipur by evening, and your driver takes you to your hotel.
If you would rather rest, we shorten the stops and keep the car moving steadily.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.

Questions
Good to know
How long is the drive from Agra to Jaipur?
The road itself is roughly five to six hours with ordinary stops. With Fatehpur Sikri, lunch and perhaps Abhaneri, the whole day usually runs from a morning start to an evening arrival.
Can I visit the Taj Mahal before leaving?
Yes, a sunrise visit first fits well, and we then leave Agra after breakfast. The Taj is closed on Fridays, so on that day the transfer simply starts with Fatehpur Sikri.
Is the Abhaneri stepwell always included?
It is an optional stop that depends on time and light. We decide it with you on the road, and we skip it rather than arrive in Jaipur late and tired.
Do I need a guide at Fatehpur Sikri?
We recommend one. The site has little signage, and a licensed guide explains how the palaces, mosque and tomb relate to each other and to Emperor Akbar's story.
