Day by day
How the days go
Day1
Mehtab Bagh at golden hour
Your driver and guide collect you from the hotel in the middle of the afternoon, timed so that you reach the river in the last hour or so before sunset.
Mehtab Bagh is a garden on the far bank of the Yamuna, laid out so that the Taj Mahal sits squarely across the water.
You walk the paths, find a good spot on the terrace, and watch the marble shift from white to gold to rose.
Your guide explains how the garden relates to the tomb and why the view is so often photographed from here.
The Taj interior is closed to visitors in the evening on normal days, so this is a view, not a visit.
Day2
The old city and dinner
As the light fades the car returns across the river to the old city.
Around Kinari Bazaar the shops are busy with fabric, brass, sweets and spices, and your guide walks you through at a relaxed pace, pausing where something catches your eye.
Streets are narrow and crowded, so the car waits at the edge.
Dinner follows at a restaurant we suggest according to your taste, and the driver takes you back to the hotel afterwards.
The plan works on a Friday as well, since the Taj itself is not entered.
Cloud, haze or winter fog can dull the sunset, and we cannot promise a clear sky.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.
Practical
Good to know
This is an evening plan; the Taj Mahal interior is not open then, except on full-moon nights.
Haze, cloud and winter fog can flatten the sunset, and no guarantee is possible.
Mehtab Bagh is quieter than the main complex but has little shade, so a hat helps in warm months.
Dinner is paid by you directly, and dietary needs can be passed to the guide in advance.

Questions
Good to know
Can we go inside the Taj Mahal at sunset?
Not on normal days. The monument closes to visitors in the evening, which is why this plan uses the view from Mehtab Bagh. Full-moon nights are the exception, and those are a separate journey.
Does the plan work on a Friday?
Yes. The Taj is closed to visitors on Fridays, but the view from the riverside garden is unaffected, and the old city is open as usual.
Is it worth going if the sky is cloudy?
Cloud and haze do soften the colours, and in winter fog can hide the Taj for a while. We check the forecast with you on the day and can adjust the time or move the walk to another evening if you are staying longer.
How walkable is the old city part?
The lanes are narrow and busy, with uneven ground, so comfortable shoes matter. Your guide sets the pace, and the car meets you at the nearest point it can reach.
