Day by day
How the days go
Day1
The Taj at first light
Drive: about two hours
Your driver and guide meet you at your Agra hotel before the gates open, and you walk in with the first visitors.
The Taj Mahal is quietest in the first hour, the marble changes colour as the sun rises, and the guide can explain the inlay, the calligraphy and the story of its building without a crowd.
Spend roughly two hours here, then return to the hotel for breakfast and a rest.
Late morning, drive to Agra Fort, the red sandstone fortress where the Mughal court lived, and walk the halls and terraces for about two hours.
After lunch, visit Itimad-ud-Daulah, a small tomb with fine marble inlay that is rarely crowded.
If you have energy left, finish at Mehtab Bagh across the river for a calm sunset view of the Taj.
The Taj is closed on Fridays, so if your first day is a Friday we begin with the fort and take the Taj when the gates reopen.
Day2
Agra to Jaipur
Drive: roughly four hours
Check out after breakfast and drive west.
The first stop is Fatehpur Sikri, about an hour from Agra, the red sandstone city Akbar built and left within a few years.
Your guide walks you through the palace courtyards, Jama Masjid and the great gateway, and you should allow about ninety minutes.
Wear shoes that are easy to remove at the mosque.
Back in the car, the road to Jaipur takes roughly four hours more.
Lunch is at a roadside restaurant on the highway, and a short stop at the stepwell at Abhaneri is possible if you are keen on architecture and the timing works.
You reach Jaipur in the late afternoon and settle into your hotel.
In the evening you may stroll a bazaar, or simply rest, since tomorrow is a full sightseeing day.
Your driver will confirm the morning meeting time at the hotel.
Day3
Jaipur
Start at Amber Fort in the morning, when the light is soft and tour groups have not yet filled the courtyards.
Your guide takes you through the gateways, the mirrored hall and the zenana, and you can spend about two hours on the hill.
On the way back, stop for the photo view of Jal Mahal on the lake.
After lunch, visit the City Palace, where the courtyards, armour and textile rooms and the royal quarters show how Jaipur grew.
The Jantar Mantar observatory next door has stone instruments that the guide will explain.
Pause on the main street opposite the Hawa Mahal for photographs of its honeycomb windows.
If time remains, walk a short stretch of the old bazaar, where block-printed cloth and jewellery are sold.
Evening is free.
The next morning, the driver takes you to the airport or onward train.
Note. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so the order of days may shift. December and January fog can flatten a sunrise.
Practical
Good to know
Agra to Jaipur is roughly five hours of driving plus Fatehpur Sikri, so the middle day is long but not rushed.
The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays. Share your dates early so the Agra day lands correctly.
December and January fog can hide the Taj at dawn. If it does, we spend extra time at the fort and return to the Taj mid-morning.
Wear shoes that slip on and off easily, because mosques and some temples require it.

Questions
Good to know
Why start in Agra and not Delhi?
Many guests arrive in Agra by train or finish another trip there. Starting with the Taj at first light also gives the best conditions. If you land in Delhi, we can add a transfer to Agra.
Is Fatehpur Sikri worth the stop?
Yes, because it sits almost directly on the route and adds little driving time. The palace courtyards and the mosque show a different side of Mughal building from Agra. It is open every day.
Can I finish in Delhi instead of Jaipur?
Yes. The driver can take you from Jaipur to Delhi on the last morning, which is roughly five hours. Tell us when you plan and we will fit it around your flight.
What if I arrive on a Friday?
Then the Taj is closed that day. We start with Agra Fort, Itimad-ud-Daulah and Mehtab Bagh, and look at whether adding a night lets you see the Taj on Saturday morning.
